About the Project

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) was established by Congress in 1964 to fulfill a bipartisan commitment to safeguard America's natural areas, water resources and cultural heritage, and to provide recreation opportunities to all Americans while helping to strengthen communities, preserve history and protect our national endowment of lands and waters.

While working for The Trust for Public Land, the LWCF Coalition - a group of non-profit organizations working together to support funding for the LWCF - needed to showcase the importance of the program and it's impact of preserving outdoor recreational opportunities. Highlighting key case studies and projects, the report demonstrates the need to ensure critical, natural resources will be protected around the nation.
